Futuristic Action & Adventure Book Series
Delta Squad by Jesse Wilson

It was a Thursday evening across the United States. Like any other one that came before it.
Another message was delivered from 188 to the rest of the world and the internet during primetime television hours.
Some channels refused to play them at all but others couldn’t resist the ratings boost every time they showed it. The media loved 188 and his ramblings and, all over the country, people’s favorite shows were being interrupted by the all too familiar ‘breaking news’ television screen.
Some took these ravings deadly seriously because they had lost loved ones in the attacks of his insane followers over the past three months at the mad man’s request to wage war on the old world.
The unaffected of the world just found it entertaining to see someone rant and rave about impossible things from their safe places at home and each message was something everyone could talk about and make fun of, despite the occasional maniac doing his bidding to tragic results.
The video would play all around the world in all kinds of languages, but the message was the same in all of them. The black screen with the unseen inferno raging in the background soon gave way to the very familiar image of a golden-eyed shadow man everyone knew by now to be 188.
Deep in the middle of the United States, a man was sitting at his house watching his favorite sports documentary about the Packers for the third time, when in the middle of it, the program cut out with the breaking news screen.
“This nonsense again,” Cody said to himself, annoyed, as he took a sip of the coffee from his blue mug.
“I sure hope they found someone to take care of this mess,” he said, and hoped that this week’s message of crazy didn’t last too long. He hated that they didn’t stop playing the show he was watching while this was going on. He knew that after the President got done yapping, it’d be over.
None of this made him happy.
“Welcome to another speech. I am so glad you could join me on such short notice. I do apologize for interrupting your pointless lives, but I think you will be interested in what I have to say. I am going to give you my target city. I am going tell you where I am going to attack you first. I mentioned the last Great War and a target and well it’s going to be Berlin. Everyone wanted this city in the past. I want it now. Why you may ask, it’s just as good a target as any,” he said to them, and continued on.
“I will not tell you when I will attack, or how. Just wanted you to all know that I am coming, and there is nothing you can do about it. This will only the beginning, and you will see that this is never going to stop until you are all dead, or you give up. I might just kill you all anyway even if you did. I haven’t decided yet. See you all soon and for all of you watching. Stay tuned you’re in for a show,” 188 paused, almost ending the message but continued on as if he wasn’t sure where to quit.
“Before I go, those of you in Berlin should enjoy the peace while it lasts. Be seeing you soon. Oh, one last thing, a message for the self-defense forces. Don’t bother, you can prepare for me but in the end, you’ll be useless. I know you can’t wait to get into a fight with me but like everyone else, you’ll have to wait. It’s my move now so be patient and enjoy the last minutes of peace you have left,” the man on the screen said, with an almost gleeful tone of voice as it faded out.
Once again, the President had an immediate response to this madness in order to ensure the people and make them feel safe once more, but this time he was addressing the entire world from a podium.
“Today I come to you as a citizen of the world and not just an American,” Adam said into the cameras.
“The shadows pose no threat to us. The world will prevail over this madness, and all of you will see this threat and you will see it is stopped, this is a promise. Even the possibility of the enemy having an enemy force this size is not possible. I will say right here and now that any hostile threat against any ally will be met with the full extent of our power. We will be as we always have been, vigilant and steadfast. This terrorist will not win anything, he and his followers will be hunted down to the ends of the earth, and no city will fall to his insane threats,” he said into the camera and continued.
“We are already in talks with our German allies and are ready to assist them in any way we can. So, as another day comes to a close, I want to wish you all a good night,” the President said to them, and even his speech was full of confidence. His eyes told another story entirely.
Those close enough to see it, and those who knew him, could see that he was anything but confident. He was far from telling the whole story, but it was the only story the public would get on the matter.
